What is a mooncake?
Mooncake is a dessert pastry traditionally gifted and enjoyed during the Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival. In this traditional celebration of the moon and
the end of the autumn harvest, families get together to enjoy special meals, including mooncakes in a variety of flavors.
This year, the Moon Festival falls on September 21, 2021.
Does selling a mooncake on OpenSea count as gifting? Can I gift it to myself?
Yes, it does! Any transfer event counts as leveling up, even if you send or gift it to yourself. But it’s more fun and aligned with the spirit of the
Moon Festival to gift to others.
How do gifting and upgrading work?
Once a mooncake NFT is in your digital wallet, we encourage you to gift it to your loved ones, your friends, or your family.
Every mooncake is minted at level 1. With each gift or transfer, a mooncake NFT can be upgraded by one level if its owner wishes so.
A mooncake doesn’t automatically change solely based on gifting or transfer. Each upgrade is deterministic, meaning the added flavors are chosen
predictably. Before committing the upgrade, you can preview the text describing your improved mooncake.
Here is an example. Alice mints a mooncake NFT with a simple flavor at level 1 and gifts it to Bob. Bob can upgrade this mooncake to level 2 to make it
tastier. Then, Bob gifts it to Charlie, and he can upgrade it to level 3 to make it even more special.
How many mooncake NFTs are there?
The Mooncake Gift collection contains 1508 mooncakes. If the demand grows, the total supply of mooncakes can be increased.
What’s the cost of mooncake NFTs?
The first 888 mooncakes are free to claim, you only pay the Ethereum gas fee. But there is a limit of only one mooncake claim per wallet. You could use
multiple wallets and claim one for each, but please don’t abuse this option, as mooncakes are meant to be gifted and shared.
The rest of the mooncake collection cost 0.01 ETH each. You can mint multiple mooncakes per transaction.
The gas fee to mint mooncakes is too high, what to do?
To avoid paying excessive gas fees for minting a mooncake NFT, we suggest picking a time when gas is low.
We want to make sure there is a mooncake for everyone who wants it. If the current collection sells out fast, we’ll increase the total supply so
everyone can mint a mooncake and share the joy of gifting.
